Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has announced a new two-year Aerospace Technician program designed to feed directly into the region's rapidly expanding launch and manufacturing sector. The program will train welders, avionics technicians, and composite fabricators with curriculum developed in partnership with local aerospace employers.
Curriculum and Credentials
The program leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree and includes stackable industry certifications including AWS D17.1 welding, FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P), and composite fabrication credentials recognized by major aerospace primes.
Students complete 600 hours of hands-on lab work in a newly constructed aerospace training center funded by a $4.2M Mississippi Development Authority grant.
Employer Partnerships
Aerojet Rocketdyne, Rocket Lab, and three Tier 1 suppliers have committed to interviewing all program graduates and offering paid internships during the second year of study. Starting salaries for graduates are projected at $48,000–$62,000 annually.
